Schoolchildren have brightened up an electrical substation with artwork highlighting energy issues.

Year 2 and Year 4 children from Earlsfield Primary School created artwork inspired by science, technology, engineering and maths to decorate a hoarding at National Grid’s substation adjacent to the greyhound stadium in Plough Lane, which closed last month.

National Grid visited the school in Tranmere Road, Earlsfield, last week to show the children the final designs and present goody bags to four of the children involved who showed the most enthusiasm and gave exceptional effort to the project.

Smaller copies of the boards were donated to the school and each student received a postcard with their artwork on to keep.

William Duncan, project manager at National Grid said: We are delighted to have worked with children from Earlsfield Primary School to design an energy themed hoarding for the new substation, focusing on the core STEM themes.

“We are very proud of all the designs and we look forward to continuing to work in partnership with the local community."

Nathalie, company director at Love Art For Schools, said: “The final designs recognise the important role that Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics play in our day to day life and embrace the issues around the energy challenge in a fun and artistic way.”

Would you like to work with us to support primary school children, the curriculum and creativity in schools?

We can work with your company to help spread important messages in a long lasting, artistic and fun way. Our art projects can be based around STEM, air pollution awareness, mindfulness, sport, sustainability, healthy eating, water efficiency and more.

Many of our art projects are created digitally, allowing us to incorporate company logos, values and messages. If the project is for a hoarding or workplace, we ensure that all of the schools also receive copies of the artwork.
